Mutation is also involved in evolution.  There is a specific example of how it shows for natural selection.  The example of the malaria and sickle cell anemia shows this example fully.  HbS carriers have been naturally selected because it has some resistance to malaria.  Genetic diversity is really important because if we all have the same genes than one disease could take us all out.  Since we are not all the same different diseases affect us all differently.
